Who is James Yoo? Arlington home explosion suspect believed to be dead

ARLINGTON, Va. (7News) — New information emerged about Monday night's Arlington home explosion suspect. Should his social media have raised red flags?

James Yoo was 56 years old and according to a LinkedIn page, he graduated from George Mason University with a degree in information resource management and was self-employed as a landlord. He worked at tech companies in Rochester, New York and in Reston and Crystal City, Virginia.

As you dig deeper, there are some interesting posts. "Defund the FBI and CIA" are posted along with "purge all spies."

There are claims next-door neighbors and their children are spies. Yoo said those neighbors were planning to attack on Thursday of this week -- the anniversary of Pearl Harbor.

In a post about his neighbors, Yoo accused them of following him around the nation for years.

“We are aware of concerning social media posts allegedly made by the suspect and these will be reviewed as part of the ongoing criminal investigation,” said Police Chief Andy Penn with the Arlington County Police Department.

Police arrived at the house Monday night after reports that someone shot off dozens of flares. Police said officers had been at the house before due to noise complaints. However, 7News has yet to find any criminal records tied to Yoo.

Purchasing and owning a flare gun in Virginia is legal. It’s called a visual distress signal under law. There is a no waiting period and flare guns are typically used by boaters to produce a distress signal. Flare guns can be used to set off flammable material too.

There are kits where you can modify a flare gun into a weapon that shoots 12-gauge bullets.

The ATF considers those flare guns to be weapons.

You can pick up a flare gun online or at any store that sells outdoor safety equipment. They go for under $100.
